5 Things to be Aware of when working as your own Boss on your Holistic Business

June 09, 20225 min read

Those of us on this path of holistic and spiritual work are built to serve others, we are invigorated at our very core when we do so.
I feel that when we get our calling, we are able to expand our hearts to places beyond our own comprehension, and yet, we are also experiencing the humanity of our path, and we must remember to take time to care for our needs.

If you have been following this blog, you already know that I recently shared that my mother is experiencing breast cancer, and it's something that I have been processing for a little over a month now.

I feel as if time is slowing down in my life as a reminder to take time and space to feel and emote. I feel sometimes I don't get all that I want at the moment, because my Higher Self knows better, it knows when I need to process all my emotions and mental activity that is tied to witnessing my mother at this critical part of her path. I have been expressing impatience with myself in more ways than I care to admit, and for this reason, I felt compelled to write this post. I figured someone out there might need to read this as well...

There is a little girl inside of me who feels scared of losing her mom, of not having her around in the physical form, and I have to honor that little one, I have to recognize that this experience is heavy and I will need time and space to care for myself so I can show up for my inner child, she is there and needs to be heard! This weekend I did just that, I created space to sit in ceremony with plant medicine, and I gave myself permission to feel all that I need to feel, to journal, and emote.

During my sacred ceremony I received a message loud and clear from Spirit:
If I am to call myself a holistic business owner, I must practice a holistic approach as my own boss!

I noticed for the past two weeks I was having a hard time concentrating, not taking breaks, being hard on myself for not working harder, and overall not being compassionate with myself; even though I do know that I am experiencing a difficult time while I witness my mom experience her own fears and challenges and that I also need to be acknowledged and held during this process.

I realized the heavy programming I brought from working in the corporate world for 20 years, I was brainwashed to believe that I had to push myself to the max in order to be worthy of recognition, this is how it was at my former workplaces, this in turn created an anxiety for me and a sense of unworthiness that I have had to acknowledge and hold space for.

After this experience I feel there are 5 things to watch for to prevent burnout in your Holistic Practice:

1- Your mind is scattered and unable to find a place of focus:
If you are experiencing scattered thoughts, this could be energy accumulated that hasn't been processed or even programs that were triggered from another lifetime! Give yourself the time to meditate, go to nature or get an SRT Clearing if the first two don't help you balance out.

2- Your thoughts are constantly negative and pushing you around:
This can be an agreement running on the background, try to notice your inner conversation more often and if you notice the pesky negative statement, write it down so you can pin it and then try writing the opposite and tell it to yourself whenever you notice the negative thought.

3- You aren't taking breaks during your day:
If you aren't taking enough breaks, you will notice your mental load will feel heavier, when you get up from your desk, even though you felt productive, you may feel more sluggish and with lack of motivation to work on your projects the next day due to how hard you are working.
My divine partner noticed this and he stopped me on my tracks, he reminded me to fill my cup, to take a break, to take time for myself and nourish my needs.

4- You are not taking the time to connect to your joy:
Why do we start our business in the first place? We do it because we disliked heavily working at places that we disliked, so why should we bring the element of other jobs in to our business? If you are not enjoying what you do, take a moment to focus back to what you DO love and DOES bring you lots of joy! For me, it's making music or crafting something with my hands.

5- You are feeling overwhelmed:
Ok, this is such an easy one to experience, especially when running your own small business, you have to get so many things done, but the reality is that we don't have to do it all in one day! I have been scheduling a maximum amount of things to do for the day and I also have switched to playing brain games or meditate, instead of doom scrolling on social media to help me re-focus myself and connect back to the present moment.
